Treat yourself to this practical butter dish with its simple, austere lines. You’ll never want to eat breakfast without it again!
These butter dishes are entirely hand modeled and vary slightly in shape and size, making each one unique. The pieces are fired initially at 950° (biscuit) then sanded, perfected and glazed, before being fired a second time at 1250°. Each piece takes about 3 weeks to make (hand modeling, drying, firing).
The artist prefers to work with raw, organic materials: the clay is often left unglazed, or glazed in only a few places.
After changing careers to become a ceramicist, Léa Baldassari now handcrafts everyday objects in her small studio in Paris.
Léa uses various hand modeling techniques, including pinching, slab building and coiling, working with a variety of different clays, ranging from smooth clay to grog.
The artist tries to give her creations an earthy appearance, so they maintain an organic feel.
She takes a slow design and environmentally conscious approach to her work.

Lea Baldassari
